Melting Crystals Model
Here the visitor can experiment with organic chemicals such as menthol which is mounted on a microscope slide.

The crystal usually looks white but when shown in polarised light its crystalline structure produces a kaleidoscope of colours.

The compound on the slide can be melted at the touch of a button and as it becomes liquid the crystal pattern disappears, only to start growing again before your eyes when the heat is stopped and cooling sets in. This demonstates the principal of crystal growth.
